Four senior basketball players from Robeson County earned selections when HighSchoolOT released its All-State teams this week.

Lumberton’s J.B. Brockington earned a third-team spot on the boys team, while girls selections included St. Pauls’ Jakieya Thompson and Purnell Swett’s Kylie Chavis, who each earned third-team honors, and Purnell Swett’s Natalie Evington, who was an honorable mention.

Brockington earned All-State honors from HighSchoolOT for the second time after averaging 18.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, 9.7 assists and 2.8 steals per game. He helped lead the Pirates to a 24-6 overall record, a second-place finish in the United-8 Conference, the Robeson County Shootout championship and a third-round state playoff appearance in his senior season, and was named Robeson County Player of the Year for the second straight season by The Robesonian.

Brockington is committed to play collegiately at Mount Olive, where he will play alongside Pirates teammate Jacob Hammonds, who announced his commitment to the Trojans program earlier this week.

Thompson’s selection was the third of her career; she averaged 21.4 points, 11.3 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 6.9 steals per game. She helped lead St. Pauls (20-6, 11-1 Southeastern Athletic Conference) to a share of the Southeastern regular-season title and a third-round state playoff appearance this season, one year removed from a run to the 2A East Regional final. Thompson, a North Carolina A&T signee, was also named Robeson County Player of the Year for the second time.

Chavis earned her second All-State selection after averaging 21.2 points, 10.1 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 4.5 steals per season. Evington earned her first All-State nod from HighSchoolOT after scoring 19.6 points per game with 4.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.2 steals per season. She is also a two-time Robeson County Player of the Year, in 2020 and 2022.

Chavis and Evington helped lead Purnell Swett (24-6, 12-2 United-8) to a second-place conference finish, the team’s second-straight Robeson County Shootout title and a third-round state playoff appearance. Chavis is signed to UNC Wilmington and Evington to UNC Pembroke.
