LUMBERTON — The Lumberton girls tennis team earned a 6-3 win over Jack Britt in United-8 Conference Play Monday.

Lumberton (6-2, 5-1 United-8) won four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles matches to defeat the Buccaneers (6-3, 4-3 United-8).

In singles, at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, Lumberton’s Emily Hall beat Jack Britt’s Kelly Chay 6-2, 7-5, and the Pirates’ Alyssa Stone won 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 10-8 over Riley Nazano. The Pirates also got wins at the No. 5 and 6 spots: Logan Hickman topped Ena Audu 6-0, 6-2 and Shania Hunt defeated Katelyn Castillo 6-0, 6-0.

Jack Britt earned singles wins from Lauren Nazano, who beat Nellie Jackson 6-4, 6-1, and Ava Borlinski, who beat Dean Whitley 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.

Hall/Stone led the Pirates in doubles with an 8-5 win over Chay/Lauren Nazano at the No. 1 spot; Hickman/Hunt beat Audu/Castillo 8-4 in the No. 3 match. Jackson/Whitley were defeated 8-6 by Riley Nazano/Borlinski.

Lumberton plays Wednesday at South View.

Purnell Swett swept at Hoke County

The Purnell Swett volleyball team lost 3-0 in Monday’s nonconference game at Hoke County.

Hoke County (4-9) won the three sets 25-17, 25-19 and 26-24.

Wren Jacobs had three kills for Purnell Swett (6-8) and Farron Chavis had two aces and 13 service points.

The Rams host Lumberton on Tuesday.
