PEMBROKE — The soccer and men’s and women’s cross country teams at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke each earned spots in regional rankings announced Wednesday.

The soccer team’s seven-match win streak that stretches back to early September has helped it to remain in the No. 8 spot in the United Soccer Coaches Association Region Poll for another week, the organization announced.

The Braves (8-3-0, 7-0-0 CC) joined 10th-ranked Mount Olive (8-0-2, 5-0-1 CC) as the only two Conference Carolinas schools on the list. Former Peach Belt Conference rivals Columbus State and North Georgia occupied the No. 1 and No. 3 rankings, respectively, while Flagler dropped to No. 4 and Lander checked in at No. 9. Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Queens and Limestone filled in the remaining spots on the list.

The Black & Gold currently sits all alone atop the Conference Carolinas standings entering Wednesday’s game at Francis Marion.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams continued to be recognized in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) southeast region rankings for the fifth straight week on Wednesday.

The men’s team, which finished 19th last weekend amid a display of the nation’s top teams at the UAH Chargers Cross Country Invite, dropped one spot into the No. 10 spot this week. The Braves were joined in the rankings by two other league opponents – Emmanuel at No. 6 and Mount Olive at No. 9.

On the women’s side, the Black & Gold remain the only Conference Carolinas team to be ranked in the region. For the fourth straight week, UNCP holds steady with a No. 8 ranking.

The Braves now turn their attention to the Conference Carolinas Championship on October 23. The race will be held on the campus of Mount Olive with the men’s race beginning at 10 a.m. and the women’s race set to follow at 11 a.m.
