FAYETTEVILLE — Six wrestlers from Robeson County earned a place on the podium at the Boneyard Bash hosted by Jack Britt over the weekend.

Lumberton, an 11th-place finisher in the team standings, had five wrestlers place in the event, and Fairmont’s Derrick Baker finished third.

Lumberton’s Curran Bedell at 120 pounds took a perfect run up into the championship bout before losing to Avery Buonocre from Laney by major decision to finish second in the event.

Jonathan Floyd at 126 pounds and heavyweight Josh Doyle each finished third in their bracket for the Pirates. Doyle won by fall over Xavier Tabb from Jacksonville in the third-place match and Floyd won in a 4-3 decision over Lake Norman’s J.T. Richards in his third-place match.

Justin Kelly dropped his semifinal match at 113 pounds before suffering three straight losses to finish sixth. Also finishing sixth for Lumberton was Darionte McLaurin at 170 pounds.

Baker improved his county-best record to 31-1 at Jack Britt with his third-place finish at 182 pounds. After losing by fall in the semifinals, Baker reeled off a win by fall over Croatan’s Dakota Gray in the consolation round before winning by forfeit in the third-place match.

Dazon Ellerby had three wins at 220 pounds for Fairmont.

Purnell Swett’s Derrian Jenkins won a trio of matches at 132 pounds. Ethan Roberts claimed three wins in the heavyweight bracket for St. Pauls.
