LUMBERTON – The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office may want you.

The agency is seeking current certified law enforcement officers to serve within the patrol division or the Robeson County Courthouse security team.

The Sheriff’s Office is also looking for individuals interested in employment as a deputy cadet for an upcoming January 2024 session of Basic Law Enforcement training at Robeson Community College.

“If selected for the deputy cadet program,” states the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, “all training to include salary will be paid by the agency.”

Also, the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing applicants to serve as detention officers at the county Detention Center.

“This process is shorter than that of a deputy,” the Facebook post states. “In this position, we could potentially hire qualified applicants while they receive a full-time salary and pay for the state-mandated five-week training academy related to certification as a detention officer. Certified detention officers are also considered for BLET (Basic Law Enforcement training) classes after one year of service within the detention.”

Full-time patrol deputies and detention officers work 14 days a month on 12-hour shifts. Courthouse security and bailiffs work Monday through Friday day shifts.

Multiple overtime opportunities are available daily throughout the county and within the detention center.

If you meet the following qualifications, the Sheriff’s Office says, you are eligible to apply:

– Must be at least 20 years old on the first day of work;

– Must be a citizen of the United States;

– Must have a high school diploma or equivalent;

– Must possess or be able to possess a North Carolina driver’s license;

– Patrol deputy applicants will be considered who live no more than 20 miles outside of the county. Detention officers may live in or outside of the county;

– Must not have been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor;

– No Giglio issues (Under the law, prosecutors must disclose any evidence that could call into question the credibility of an individual testifying in trial or impede an investigation. This constitutional requirement applies to all witnesses, including law enforcement officers, in order to ensure a defendant gets a fair trial.);

– Other in-house requirements will be discussed with potential applicants by the agency recruiter
